Groundwater Observation Wells

PROJECT OVERVIEW

The Aliso Water District Groundwater Sustainability Agency (AWD GSA) received funding through the State of California’s Sustainable Groundwater Management Grant Program to install at least two groundwater observation wells to address aquifer-specific spatial data gaps within the GSA boundary. After two rounds of bid openings, in March of 2024, three groundwater observation wells were completed in the lower aquifer (2) and upper aquifer (1). The wells were drilled, installed, and completed by Quality Well Drillers and reviewed by Provost & Pritchard Consulting Group (Provost & Pritchard) along with Kenneth D. Schmidt & Associates (KDSA). The completion of this project will improve the GSA’s understanding of the apportionment of composite well groundwater extractions, upper and lower aquifer hydrogeologic properties, and the interaction between the principal aquifers and aquitards beneath the GSA boundary. Funding of the program was provided by the Budget Act of 2021 (through Senate Bill 170).
